Charlie Woods gets into 14-for-2 playoff for final match-play berths at U.S. Junior

Charlie Woods is back on the course at the U.S. Junior Amateur. After finishing his 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying at 5 over, the 17-year-old remains in contention for a match-play berth. He carded an even-par 70 on Tuesday at the Saucon Valley Country Club to secure his spot in a high-stakes playoff.

Woods enters a 14-for-2 playoff early Wednesday morning. The format requires him to compete against 13 other players for two remaining seeds in the match-play bracket. His performance during Tuesday’s round included an eagle on the 332-yard, par-4 13th hole, providing a significant spark to his back-nine effort. He ultimately finished in a tie for 63rd place to force the tiebreaker.

This marks the third consecutive year Woods has competed in this tournament. He navigated his second round with consistent play, bouncing back from a difficult opening round on the Old Course. The upcoming playoff will take place on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley, utilizing holes 1, 5, and 18 to determine who moves forward.

Should Woods emerge from the playoff, he will claim the 63rd seed. This positioning would set up a first-round match against medalist Miles Russell, his future teammate at Florida State. The tournament continues to showcase top junior talent as the field narrows for the match-play stage.
