Haeran Ryu concluded her run at the AIG Women’s Open this past weekend with a tie for sixth place. While the result ends her pursuit of a third consecutive major title, the South Korean star maintained a positive perspective after the demanding tournament at Royal Lytham and St. Annes.
Ryu entered the final major of the season with significant momentum. Her previous victories at the KPMG Women’s PGA and the Amundi Evian Championship placed her in a position to join an elite group of LPGA players. She started the week strong, opening with a 5-under 66 and holding the lead entering the weekend. However, the challenging conditions of the course proved difficult to navigate.
A tough stretch during the third round, which included five bogeys, stalled her momentum. Despite a birdie on the first hole of her final round, she could not regain the ground needed to force a playoff. She finished four shots behind the winner, Shiho Kuwaki. Even without the third major trophy, Ryu secured her best career finish in this specific tournament, having previously debuted with a tie for 21st in 2023.
Looking ahead, Ryu plans to prioritize recovery after an intense stretch of competition. The LPGA schedule provides a break before the tour resumes at the Standard Portland Classic. Ryu indicated she intends to compete there after returning home for rest.
