Champagne, tears and bagpipes: How Jenny Shin ended her 10-year victory drought at the Women’s Scottish Open

Jenny Shin secured a victory at the ISPS Handa Scottish Women's Open, marking her first professional win in over a decade. The 33-year-old finished at nine-under 279 at Dundonald Links, ending a drought that spanned 10 years, two months, and 25 days. The win came after 236 starts, making it the longest gap between victories for an active tour player in 30 years.

Shin entered the final round with a significant lead but faced immediate pressure on the course after recording three consecutive bogeys. A crucial par save on the ninth hole helped steady her performance, allowing her to finish two strokes ahead of runner-up A Lim Kim. Shin earned $300,000 for her performance, adding to her career earnings of over $8 million.

Reflecting on her career, Shin noted that the pandemic served as a major turning point in her perspective. She described a period of struggle where she felt unsure of her goals but eventually found a renewed appreciation for the game. She credited her recent success to consistent work with a putting coach and a mental approach focused on staying present.

Following this win, Shin is preparing for the AIG Women's British Open at Royal Lytham & St. Annes. Her win at the Scottish event serves as a significant milestone, especially given her transition from a young standout in the U.S. Girls Junior to an established tour veteran. Her focus now remains on refining her game with her coaching team as she looks toward the upcoming major tournament.
