Ryan Fox has claimed his first major championship title in dramatic fashion at the British Open. The 39-year-old New Zealander secured his victory at Royal Birkdale with a clutch 12-foot birdie putt on the final hole. This win marks a significant career milestone for Fox, who grew up as the son of an All Blacks rugby player.

Competition remained fierce throughout the final round as four different players held a share of the lead. Cameron Young finished his round early with a strong 6-under 64, setting a high bar for the field. Despite pressure and difficult conditions on the back nine, Fox remained consistent.

Fox closed with a 2-under 68 to finish at 10-under 270. His victory puts his name on the Claret Jug, joining Bob Charles as the only other player from New Zealand to win this major. Fox expressed his disbelief at the winning putt, noting that it was a dream to see the trophy up close for the first time.

Other notable performances included Sam Burns, who held a lead early in the week, and defending champion Scottie Scheffler, who finished in a tie for fourth alongside Tommy Fleetwood. Bryson DeChambeau, who faced scrutiny for earlier rules infractions, finished in a tie for 14th after shooting a 72.
