PGA Tour player banned from competing for 6 months
The PGA Tour recently issued a six-month suspension to professional golfer Trey Mullinax. This decision follows a violation of the organization's Anti-Doping Policy. Mullinax is ineligible for competition until January 16, 2027.
In a public statement, Mullinax explained that the violation stemmed from his use of a medication prescribed for a long-standing medical condition. He admitted he did not seek the necessary approval under current tour regulations before taking the substance. Mullinax clarified that he did not intend to gain a competitive advantage and expressed regret for failing to understand the specific requirements of the policy.
The PGA Tour confirmed that Mullinax cooperated with their staff throughout the investigation and accepted the terms of the suspension. Mullinax maintains that he respects the game and his fellow competitors, noting that he will take this time to ensure he remains in full compliance with all league rules moving forward. He plans to return to professional play upon the conclusion of his suspension period.
Mullinax turned professional in 2014 after his time at the University of Alabama. His professional record includes a victory at the 2022 Barbasol Championship and a top-ten finish at the 2017 U.S. Open. As he serves this suspension, he intends to remain focused on his eventual return to the tour in 2027.
