Curtis Mead exits Red Sox debut with left wrist contusion
Curtis Mead’s introduction to the Boston Red Sox took an unexpected turn on Monday night. During his debut game, the infielder exited early after being hit on his left wrist by a pitch from Athletics starter Jack Perkins in the fourth inning. Mead had struck out in his first at-bat before the injury occurred.
While the situation caused concern for the team, initial reports are positive. Red Sox manager Chad Tracy confirmed that X-rays on the wrist came back negative, describing the outcome as a potential relief. Mead remains under evaluation and will undergo further testing on Tuesday to determine the extent of the impact.
Despite the early departure, Mead expressed his frustration with the timing of the injury during his first appearance in a new uniform. He noted that he tried to grip a bat after the injury but felt significant pain during rotation. He remains hopeful for a quick return to the field.
This injury comes shortly after the Red Sox acquired Mead in a trade with the Washington Nationals that sent left-hander Connelly Early to D.C. The team looks to integrate his .253 batting average and 17 home runs into their lineup as they push through the remainder of the season. Anthony Seigler replaced Mead in the lineup during the 4-2 win against the Athletics.
