Julio Rodriguez returns, knocks in winning run for Mariners

Julio Rodriguez is officially back in the Seattle Mariners lineup. After being placed on the seven-day injured list on July 3 with a concussion, the three-time All-Star returned to action on Saturday. He served as the designated hitter and batted second during the contest against the San Francisco Giants.

While Rodriguez did not record a hit in his four at-bats, he played a central role in the outcome of the game. In the bottom of the tenth inning, he connected on a sacrifice fly to left field. This play allowed Victor Robles to score the winning run, securing a 4-3 victory for the Mariners.

This marks the second time in his career that Rodriguez has recorded a walk-off plate appearance. The win serves as the seventh time this season that Seattle has come out on top in their final at-bat. To create space for Rodriguez on the active roster, the team designated utilityman Miles Mastrobuoni for assignment earlier that day.

General manager Justin Hollander confirmed that Rodriguez passed necessary benchmarks before his return, including running the bases and taking swings off a pitching machine during Friday's practice. Before his injury, Rodriguez had participated in 87 games this season, maintaining a batting average of .259 with 14 home runs and 40 RBIs. The Mariners are also tracking the recovery of utilityman Brendan Donovan, who recently started a rehab assignment at Triple-A Tacoma after being sidelined with a groin strain since May.
