Green says Mets fully compliant on AI after report of usage
New York Mets interim manager Andy Green confirmed this week that the organization remains in full compliance with league regulations regarding the use of artificial intelligence. His comments follow a public report suggesting the Mets used advanced software to assist with in-game strategy decisions earlier this season.
The discussion surrounding the team began after comments from former Mets reliever Adam Ottavino, now a broadcaster, who claimed the club utilized expensive AI tools to help identify pitch selection and other tactical choices. These claims prompted wider scrutiny regarding how teams integrate technology into the dugout.
Major League Baseball recently moved to restrict the use of iPads in team dugouts to prevent the unauthorized deployment of these programs. The league previously allowed tablets to access video and approved data, but teams could also load custom tabs to view outside software. As of the second half of the season, those custom tabs are now inaccessible.
Green declined to discuss the specifics of Ottavino’s claims or the inner workings of the team’s technology department. He maintained that the Mets follow all league directives and will continue to work within the parameters set by Major League Baseball regarding technical tools and software on the field.
