Wallace disputed the ruling immediately after the race. He told reporters he stayed on the brakes to avoid passing other cars after moving to the bottom of the track on the backstretch. Data reviews from his team at 23XI Racing followed, but a 31-minute meeting between team leadership and officials resulted in the penalty standing as originally called. This decision removed any gains Wallace made during the closing moments of the race.

The penalty caused a 27-point swing for the driver of the No. 23 Toyota. This setback adds to a difficult stretch for Wallace, who has placed outside the top 20 in six of his last nine races. Despite these struggles, he maintains a 55-point lead above the playoff cutline as the regular season reaches its final phase.

Beyond the penalty, tension remained high on pit road. Wallace engaged in a heated conversation with Ty Gibbs regarding contact made earlier in the race. Gibbs expressed frustration regarding the interaction, noting he attempted to assist Wallace during the final lap despite the earlier incidents.
