Kyle Larson crashes out of Brickyard 400, finishing last

Kyle Larson faced a premature exit from the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Running as the leader near the end of Stage 1, the Hendrick Motorsports driver suffered a sudden tire failure entering Turn 3. The incident sent the No. 5 Chevrolet hard into the outside wall, forcing an immediate retirement from the race.

Larson finished 39th, securing just a single point for his efforts. The driver reported the issue as a mechanical failure rather than a result of aggressive driving. He noted that he was managing fuel and maintaining a controlled pace when the left-rear tire gave way. Crew chief Cliff Daniels consulted with tire officials shortly after the crash occurred.

This DNF adds pressure to Larson's season as he navigates a winless streak throughout 2026. He entered the race sixth in the championship standings but slipped two spots following the crash. With the playoffs approaching in one month, the lack of points from this event creates a disadvantage for his seeding. His teammate, Chase Elliott, also retired from the race after a separate collision.

Larson has now recorded finishes of 34th or worse in three of the last four races. The team plans to focus on the next event in Iowa to recover lost ground in the standings. As the Chase reset at Daytona looms, each race result carries weight for the remaining playoff contenders.
