Creighton basketball is adjusting its roster plans following a recent legal development regarding NCAA player eligibility. A court injunction now allows athletes from the high school Class of 2021 who exhausted their eligibility this past spring to return for an additional year of play.
The Bluejays have two roster spots available and are exploring options to fill them. Head coach Alan Huss and his staff met recently to prepare for the upcoming transfer portal window, which opens Monday morning. Athletes must be enrolled by the registration deadline on August 21 to be eligible for the semester.
While the roster has been mostly set since mid-April, the coaching staff intentionally kept these spots open for potential additions. The team is looking for wing depth or a contributor to the frontcourt to round out the group. The staff is also weighing the possibility of adding a developmental international player, though that process remains ongoing.
This legal shift impacts more than just basketball. Other sports face similar situations as they grapple with the sudden change in eligibility rules. The NCAA indicated in a memo that it will challenge the Colorado court order, though teams are currently moving forward with their own independent decisions while the injunction remains in effect.
