Shooters exceeding early expectations for KU

Kansas men’s basketball head coach Bill Self shared positive updates following the summer practice sessions, highlighting that the team is shooting the ball better than original projections suggested. While much of the preseason focus remained on the physical tools of freshman forward Tyran Stokes, his perimeter shooting has proven to be an asset rather than the expected development area. Freshman Luke Barnett is also making an impact during these early sessions. Despite entering the program as a less-heralded recruit, Barnett has transitioned quickly to the college speed and is earning trust for his ability to space the floor. Self described him as a pleasant surprise who has shown he is ready for meaningful court time.

Returning players are also showing notable progress. Sophomore wing Kohl Rosario is demonstrating improved confidence and refined shooting mechanics after a challenging freshman campaign. Coaching staff additions and transfers like Keanu Dawes from Utah are expected to provide necessary spacing from the power forward position. With veteran depth and emerging young talent, the Jayhawks aim to improve their standing in 3-point percentage after several seasons of middle-of-the-pack performance within the Big 12.
