La Familia’s TBT run continues as UK basketball alumni team moves on to next round
La Familia is advancing in The Basketball Tournament after a hard-fought 70-66 win against Boeheim’s Army. The Kentucky basketball alumni team secured the victory on Sunday at Historic Memorial Coliseum in Lexington. With this win, the squad remains in contention for the grand prize as they move into the final stages of the alumni bracket.
The game remained tight throughout the afternoon. While La Familia established an early lead behind hot 3-point shooting, Boeheim’s Army pulled ahead by as many as nine points in the fourth quarter. The contest reached its conclusion under the Elam Ending rules, where La Familia outscored their opponents 12-5 to reach the target score of 69 points first.
Kahlil Whitney delivered the deciding moment for the team, scoring a put-back dunk to seal the win. Archie Goodwin led all scorers with 30 points, supported by a double-digit performance from Darryl Morsell, who also pulled down 12 rebounds. Willie Cauley-Stein added to the effort, continuing his final run in organized basketball.
Looking ahead, La Familia will compete in the championship game of the alumni bracket this Wednesday night, hosted once again at Memorial Coliseum. A victory there would set the stage for the team to host the final TBT championship game in August. The tournament carries a $2 million grand prize for the ultimate winner.
