Manning taking ownership at Texas after season of adversity
Arch Manning is stepping into a new phase of his college football career as he takes clear ownership of the Texas Longhorns. Following a difficult stretch of early-season adversity, the quarterback has moved past his initial struggles to become the leader his team requires. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian noted that the path to this level of maturity required Manning to work through the challenges of his first year as a starter, eventually gaining the full trust of his teammates.
Teammate Colin Simmons emphasized that the group is now fully invested in Manning as their leader. After spending much of the spring recovering from a foot injury, Manning has been busy connecting with his receiving corps and new backfield additions to ensure the offense is prepared for the upcoming season. He focused heavily on building chemistry during private workouts, creating a cohesive unit that he believes will be a significant factor on the field.
One primary goal for this offseason has been correcting issues in the short-yardage game. Manning, who was self-critical following his performance against Ohio State, has been working on his fundamentals and decision-making. Sarkisian pointed out that having a more refined understanding of the offensive playbook, combined with improved weapons like Cam Coleman and Hollywood Smothers, will allow for a more balanced attack.
Throughout the process, Manning has learned to block out external noise. While he acknowledged that the spotlight remains intense, he is focused strictly on the variables he can control. His performance in the latter half of last season, characterized by high efficiency and reduced turnovers, serves as a foundation for his current trajectory. The focus now shifts toward proving that the progress made during these months translates into wins on Saturdays.
