Former LSU star Demetrius Byrd arrested after allegedly pulling knife on bus: 'Who wants to die?'
Former LSU football standout Demetrius Byrd is in custody following an incident on a bus in Miami. According to reports, Byrd allegedly initiated a heated argument with another passenger and brandished a blade during the confrontation. Witnesses say he asked the passenger, "Who wants to die?" before authorities intervened.
Byrd currently faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on a $5,000 bond. Court records indicate he also has an outstanding warrant related to a domestic violence charge.
Football fans may recognize Byrd for his significant role during LSU's 2007 national championship season. He famously caught a game-winning 22-yard touchdown pass from Matt Flynn with only one second left on the clock against Auburn. Following his college career, his path toward professional play was cut short due to serious injuries sustained in a car accident shortly before the NFL draft.
Despite being drafted by the San Diego Chargers, Byrd never played in a professional game. He finished his time with the Tigers with 72 catches for 1,134 yards and 11 touchdowns over 27 games. Law enforcement continues to manage the active legal proceedings regarding his recent arrest in Miami.
