Veteran NFL wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is beginning a new chapter in his career at the collegiate level. The five-time All-Pro recently accepted an assistant wide receivers coach position at Georgia Tech.
Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key announced the move on Friday, noting that Hopkins brings significant expertise to the staff. Key highlighted that Hopkins has a strong understanding of the team's offensive scheme due to his history with offensive coordinator George Godsey. The staff views his presence as a major asset for player development on and off the field.
Hopkins, 34, is transitioning into this coaching role after completing his 13th season in the NFL. He spent the 2025 season with the Baltimore Ravens, recording career lows with 22 catches for 330 yards. Despite the move to college coaching, Hopkins clarified through social media that he remains an active free agent and has not officially retired from the professional league.
Throughout his decorated career, Hopkins played for the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs, and Baltimore Ravens. He currently sits at 17th on the NFL all-time reception list with 1,006 catches. He now brings that deep well of experience to the Georgia Tech program.
