Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith has addressed his May arrest for reckless driving. Smith was stopped by the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia for allegedly driving at 136 MPH in a 70-MPH zone. The incident occurred while he was operating his Lamborghini.
Following the arrest, Smith initiated an apology to the team organization. He confirmed on Monday that he spoke directly with general manager Howie Roseman and team owner Jeffrey Lurie to accept responsibility for his actions. Smith stated that he understands his conduct reflects on the team and that he holds himself to a high standard.
The Eagles organization has not issued any internal disciplinary action regarding the traffic stop. Smith remains on the roster and is preparing for upcoming team activities as the season approaches.
While the team has moved past the incident, Smith’s status under the NFL Personal Conduct Policy is not confirmed. League investigations regarding off-field incidents are standard practice for the NFL. It is possible that the league will take separate action, though the team appears to be satisfied with the player's direct acknowledgment of the mistake.
