Source: Ex-Cowboys QB Will Grier returns as offensive assistant

Will Grier is returning to the Dallas Cowboys. The former quarterback, who announced his retirement from playing on July 15, has joined the team's coaching staff as an offensive assistant.

This move marks a reunion between Grier and the organization. He previously spent time with the Cowboys on their practice squad and active roster during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. He also spent time with the team in 2024 before moving on to other opportunities.

Grier began his professional career as a third-round draft pick by the Carolina Panthers in 2019 out of West Virginia. His career included stops with the Panthers, Cowboys, and Philadelphia Eagles. During his time as a player in Dallas, he formed a close professional relationship with starter Dak Prescott.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer has expressed confidence in Grier's transition to the sidelines. Schottenheimer pointed to Grier's offensive mind as a primary reason he expects him to have a productive career as a coach. Grier had received an offer to join the Dallas staff earlier in the offseason but initially opted to sign with Carolina before ultimately deciding to hang up his cleats.
