Bruins Lose 25-Year Old Center to Contract with Avalanche
The Boston Bruins are parting ways with 25-year-old center Georgii Merkulov. The player signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche this week, ending his tenure within the Boston system.
Merkulov has been a notable figure in the Bruins organization over the last few seasons. Since joining the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League, he consistently posted impressive offensive numbers. During his most recent campaign in 2025-26, he recorded 24 goals and 37 assists across 70 games. This followed several productive years in the AHL where he remained a scoring threat for the team.
His path to the professional level included time in the USHL with the Youngstown Phantoms and a single season of college hockey at Ohio State. He also gained limited experience at the NHL level with Boston, appearing in 11 games and contributing one assist during his time with the big club.
The Colorado Avalanche have added him to their roster for the upcoming year. While the move provides Merkulov with a new opportunity to secure a regular role at the NHL level, it also marks the end of his development cycle in Boston. The organization will now look forward as they adjust their roster depth for the season ahead.
