Canucks' Cammi Granato shifts from assistant GM to adviser role

Cammi Granato is stepping into a new position within the Vancouver Canucks organization. After serving as an assistant general manager for nearly five seasons, the Hockey Hall of Fame icon moves into a senior amateur adviser role. Granato announced the decision on Friday, noting that the timing feels right for a transition that allows her to focus on amateur scouting and operations.

General manager Ryan Johnson confirmed the shift in the team's front office structure. Granato originally joined the Canucks in February 2022 after being hired by former president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford. Before her time in Vancouver, she made history as the first female scout in the league with the Seattle Kraken.

Her transition comes during a period of broad change for the club. The franchise recently brought in new leadership, including co-presidents Henrik and Daniel Sedin and head coach Manny Malhotra. Granato expressed her continued support for the current direction of the organization and the leadership group currently in place as she shifts her focus toward scouting.

Granato remains one of the most prominent figures in the sport. As a former captain of the U.S. women's team that earned gold at the 1998 Nagano Olympics, her experience is extensive. By moving to an advisory role, she will continue to lend her expertise to the team as they look to build their talent pipeline. The Canucks front office continues to reorganize following a difficult finish in the overall league standings last year.
