Inter enter talks with Tottenham over signing captain Cristian Romero
Inter Milan is in active negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur regarding the transfer of Cristian Romero. The Spurs captain and Argentina defender is a primary target for the Italian side as they look to strengthen their back line. Romero has been with the London club since 2021, accumulating 156 appearances and helping the team secure a Europa League title last year.
Despite his contributions, Romero experienced a challenging 2025-26 season that included four separate suspensions. Tottenham recently bolstered their defensive roster by signing Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton for 52 million pounds and adding free agent Marcos Senesi. These moves allow the club to move on from their current captain.
Representatives for the player are currently in Milan to finalize the details of the transition. Piero Ausilio, the sporting director for Inter, confirmed the ongoing discussions with both the player and the English club to Italian media outlets. Ausilio noted that while these agreements require time to formalize, the interest from Inter is definite. The move would represent a significant change for the defender, who recently concluded an intensive summer campaign with the Argentine national team at the World Cup.
