Matthias Jaissle: Newcastle to appoint German as new boss on Saturday after Eddie Howe exit confirmed
Newcastle United is set for a change in leadership. The club confirmed the departure of Eddie Howe on Friday after nearly five years at the helm. Following this exit, Matthias Jaissle is expected to take over as the new head coach this Saturday.
Newcastle reached an agreement with Saudi club Al Ahli to pay a £9.5 million compensation fee for the German manager. Jaissle will sign a four-year contract at St James' Park. He is scheduled to meet his new squad at their training camp in La Manga, Spain, shortly after his appointment is finalized.
Howe oversaw a successful period for the team, including a Carabao Cup victory in 2025 and multiple Champions League qualifications. In his farewell statement, he expressed that he felt it was the right time to step away to recharge and take a break. Several of his coaching staff, including Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones, are also leaving the club.
In addition to the coaching change, Newcastle is bolstering its squad. The club has agreed to a £25.7 million deal for Braga goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek. The 24-year-old Czech player is expected to join the team as their new first-choice goalkeeper, marking the club's fifth signing of the summer.
