Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka are set to join forces for the upcoming US Open mixed doubles event in New York. The 39-year-old Serbian and 28-year-old Belarusian confirmed their participation in the revamped tournament, which begins on 25 August.
The mixed doubles event has sparked significant debate since organizers overhauled the format last year to feature superstar pairings. While the move generated criticism from traditional doubles specialists, it also proved to be a major financial success for the tournament. Sources indicate that officials have offered substantial appearance fees, reportedly up to 500,000 dollars each, to attract top singles stars.
Other notable entries include Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula, as well as Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud. Naomi Osaka and Kei Nishikori have also indicated plans to enter the draw. Not every top player is participating, however. Carlos Alcaraz is absent while recovering from a wrist injury, and Jannik Sinner has chosen to focus on his health following his recent performance at Wimbledon.
Entry requirements prioritize teams with the highest combined singles rankings, though organizers will distribute eight wildcards to round out the field. A qualifying round on 24 August will determine the final two spots.
