Nvidia-backed Fireworks hits $17.5 billion valuation as companies pursue cheaper AI models
Fireworks has reached a 17.5 billion dollar valuation after securing a new round of funding. The startup, which is backed by Nvidia, reported that its annualized revenue has topped 1 billion dollars. This represents a fivefold increase compared to the company’s performance last year.
The cloud startup provides infrastructure for running open-source AI models. As corporate finance departments look for ways to lower the costs associated with artificial intelligence, many are moving away from the largest proprietary models in favor of these more efficient alternatives. Lin Qiao, the co-founder and CEO, noted that the company currently manages 40 trillion AI tokens every day.
While industry leaders like OpenAI and Anthropic remain significant, Fireworks is finding success by offering what it calls specialized intelligence. Clients can input their own data to train models for specific tasks. This approach allows developers to maintain control over their data while cutting costs significantly compared to other options. Partners include major tech firms like Microsoft.
With a team of 200 employees that is expected to triple by the end of 2026, the company plans to increase its sales efforts. The startup has successfully diversified its client base, moving beyond its early dependence on coding platforms. Recent investors in the 1.5 billion dollar funding round include Atreides Management and Index Ventures.
