Nvidia unveils new AI model and expands Japan’s physical AI ecosystem
Nvidia is deepening its presence in the Japanese market with the launch of Cosmos 3 Edge, a new AI model designed for robotics and autonomous systems. This technology enables machines to interpret and navigate physical environments in real time, moving beyond the capabilities of traditional large language models. The move marks a significant shift as the chip maker looks to integrate its systems into heavy industries.
CEO Jensen Huang is currently in Tokyo to formalize these plans. Nvidia is building a coalition with major Japanese industrial firms including Fujitsu, Hitachi, and Kawasaki Heavy Industries. The objective is to modernize the country’s manufacturing sector by applying intelligent systems directly to physical hardware. This strategy follows a broader trend of international technology firms investing in Japan’s infrastructure.
Healthcare also remains a priority for the firm. Nvidia is expanding the Tokyo-1 drug discovery consortium, which uses the BioNeMo Agent Toolkit to speed up research. Several major pharmaceutical companies, such as Astellas Pharma, Daiichi Sankyo, and Ono Pharmaceutical, are already using these tools to improve their internal research workflows. This effort aligns with Japan's target to reach an AI market valuation of nearly 28 billion dollars within the next few years.
This expansion represents a long-term play for both Nvidia and its local partners. By combining domestic manufacturing expertise with U.S. chip technology, the coalition expects to reinvent industrial operations in the region. As Japan pushes for widespread AI adoption, these collaborative efforts serve as the foundation for future developments in robotics and advanced sciences.
