The company currently holds a backlog of 514 billion dollars, with roughly half of that amount projected to be recognized over the next two years. This provides a clear baseline for future earnings as the business integrates new tools like Gemini into its Workspace suite and enterprise offerings.

Capital expenditures are also rising, with the company investing 45 billion dollars last quarter to expand its footprint of data centers and server equipment. While these massive upfront costs place pressure on short-term margins, they are necessary components for supporting future growth. Management expects these investments to mirror the return timelines seen by other large cloud providers.

Alphabet is ramping up sales of its custom AI accelerators known as TPUs. Inventory levels for the company climbed from 2.4 billion dollars at the end of 2025 to 10 billion dollars by the end of the second quarter, signaling a significant expected increase in sales for the coming months. As the business shifts toward more self-owned infrastructure, it expects to close the gap between its current 35.6 percent operating margin and the 40 percent margins maintained by top-tier competitors.

Investors looking at the stock currently see a valuation of 17.5 times forward earnings. The path to profitability for this segment requires intense capital deployment, but the company has secured a significant backlog to support these expenditures. With infrastructure spending expected to continue, Alphabet remains positioned to capture larger shares of the enterprise cloud market while building the capacity required to satisfy heavy AI workloads.
