NVIDIA and MediaTek are deepening their strategic partnership to advance AI computing platforms across the cloud, local hardware, and automotive sectors. This expanded collaboration includes a 3.5 billion dollar investment by NVIDIA in convertible bonds issued by MediaTek. The move marks a shift toward tighter integration between high-performance system-on-chip design and massive-scale AI infrastructure.
MediaTek plans to adopt the NVIDIA NVLink Fusion platform. This technology provides a pathway for cloud service providers and frontier model developers to build custom XPUs that connect directly into rack-scale AI factories. By leveraging this architecture, designers can skip the groundwork of engineering connectivity and memory systems from scratch. They can instead focus on their unique compute requirements while relying on proven NVIDIA interconnects.
Custom Silicon and the NVLink Fusion Ecosystem
Building a custom accelerator requires deep expertise in packaging, high-speed networking, and memory architecture. MediaTek will use the NVLink Fusion platform to offer a prequalified foundation for these multi-die XPU designs. This approach includes the NVLink Fusion Chiplet, which enables high-bandwidth communication between custom processors and NVIDIA fabric. It also incorporates NVIDIA NVHBM to prioritize compute space by offloading memory demands.
This workflow simplifies the production cycle for hyperscalers. Instead of managing the complexities of chip-to-rack engineering in isolation, companies can work with MediaTek to tailor their XPU performance, power, and connectivity. MediaTek’s role here is to bridge the gap between custom silicon ideas and the manufacturing realities of modern AI data centers. Building on the success of the GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, NVIDIA and MediaTek are working on multiple generations of RTX Spark and DGX Spark chips. These processors aim to bring powerful AI capabilities to consumer PCs, enterprise-class workstations, and AI developer supercomputers. The focus remains on balancing peak performance with power efficiency.
Automotive platforms represent the third pillar of this renewed alliance. The companies are developing integrated solutions for software-defined vehicles, combining MediaTek’s Dimensity Auto line with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing and graphics software. This architecture is designed to support the increasing intelligence required for modern vehicle cockpits and drive systems.
