Q/C Technologies has added Yossef Ehrlichman, Ph.D., to its leadership team to head the development of photonic integrated circuits. Ehrlichman joins the company as the founding manager for this initiative, bringing over 15 years of technical experience to the firm's Optical Processing Unit project.
The company is focused on building proprietary optical computing hardware designed for artificial intelligence infrastructure. By using light instead of electricity to perform calculations, these systems aim to improve throughput and energy efficiency, addressing limits common in traditional graphics processing hardware.
Ehrlichman possesses a background in designing, fabricating, and commercializing complex photonic systems. Before this appointment, he held senior roles at Raytheon, Bascom Hunter Technologies, and Axalume. His work history covers the full product life cycle, from initial architecture and tape-out to high-speed testing and final deployment.
Joshua Silverman, Executive Chairman of Q/C Technologies, stated that adding engineers with this specific technical depth is key to the company’s current strategy. The move signals a transition from research and development toward the creation of commercially viable semiconductor products. Chelsea Voss, a director at the company, noted that the success of optical computing relies on precise execution during the transition from the laboratory to the production floor.
As AI workloads place new pressure on current computing infrastructure, companies are seeking alternatives to traditional hardware. Q/C Technologies intends to use its photonic platform to meet this demand by providing hardware that performs complex computations through optical interference. Ehrlichman’s leadership in this role will serve as a core component of the company's broader effort to build and protect intellectual property in the optical computing market.
