Quandela Joins Canada’s Quantum Computing Sandbox
Quandela has officially joined the Canadian Quantum Computing Sandbox program. This agreement with CMC Microsystems establishes the firm as a primary provider of cloud-based photonic quantum computing services within the country. The move gives small and medium-sized enterprises, along with academic researchers, a direct path to advanced hardware previously out of reach.
This partnership centers on the specific needs of Canadian data security. The sandbox environment provides a space where research and prototyping remain entirely within national borders. This local infrastructure requirement addresses growing concerns regarding data sovereignty. The Role of CMC Microsystems and FABRiC
CMC Microsystems manages the Quantum Computing Sandbox on behalf of the Canadian federal government. Their oversight is part of the broader FABRiC initiative, which receives funding from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. The initiative aims to build a national ecosystem that strengthens the country’s semiconductor sector and encourages the adoption of quantum technologies across various industries.
Valérian Giesz, a co-founder of Quandela, highlighted the importance of this development. He noted that Quandela is now the first to offer a Canada-based photonic quantum computer for these participants. This specific access allows organizations to work with hardware that is physically located nearby, ensuring that data stays within the national perimeter at every stage of development.
Technical Assistance and Industry Access
Beyond hardware access, the memorandum of understanding includes provisions for direct technical support. Quandela will work alongside CMC Microsystems to guide selected projects through the complexities of quantum architecture. Not every project requires the same computing environment, and this program adds photonic capabilities to the existing suite of tools available to sandbox participants.
Collaboration between the two entities extends to the selection of high-potential projects eligible for research grants.
