Rigetti Computing, based in Berkeley, California, has finalized a definitive agreement with the United States Department of Commerce to receive $100 million in federal funding. This allocation arrives through the CHIPS Research and Development Office Broad Agency Announcement. The grant marks a significant move by the government to secure domestic production and development of superconducting quantum hardware. As part of the terms, the Department of Commerce will hold a minority, non-controlling equity stake in the company.
This capital injection targets three specific technical roadblocks in the current roadmap for superconducting quantum systems.
