Daughters overjoyed as Apple Watch gift saves their father's life

A Cincinnati man is recovering after an incident at his home, where his Apple Watch effectively saved his life. Mohammad Islam was taking out the trash when he suddenly collapsed. He remained unconscious on the ground until the watch’s fall detection feature triggered an automatic call to 911.

Emergency medical crews arrived at his location and transported him to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Doctors diagnosed him with blood clots in his lungs. Without the rapid intervention from the watch, the situation could have ended in a fatality. Islam is now back home and currently recovering with medication.

His daughters had gifted him the watch and frequently checked to ensure he was wearing it. They are relieved that their gift played such a direct role in his survival. This incident mirrors a previous case from 2023 in the same city, where a resident’s Apple Watch alerted her to a heart condition.

Although Islam was unaware of the full scope of the fall detection feature, he noted that he was familiar with it because of occasional false alarms when he bumped his hand during yard work. He is over 55, meaning the feature was enabled on his device by default. This technology continues to be a point of debate in legal circles, yet it remains a functional safety tool for many users in real-world emergencies.
