Customizing for Context
Theater Mode acts as a primary example of how the watch adjusts to social settings. Once active, it suppresses the always-on display and disables raise-to-wake gestures. It also reduces screen brightness and toggles do-not-disturb status. These settings prevent a bright screen from distracting others in a dark room. The system can even revert to normal settings automatically after a set duration.
Driving serves as the polar opposite. In this scenario, the user requires the screen to remain visible and responsive. Samsung allows configurations where the always-on display stays active and brightness levels shift to maximum. This ensures the watch remains readable at a glance without forcing the driver to take their eyes off the road for too long. Each of these profiles is accessible via the Modes menu, and most require only a brief setup process to lock in the preferred behavior.
Automated Sleep and Custom Tasks
Sleep Mode remains the most standard implementation. Users who are light sleepers benefit from its ability to block all incoming notifications except for those from pre-selected contacts. It disables the screen from waking up when the arm moves during the night. Furthermore, it shifts the display to Eye Comfort Mode and enters a power-saving state to preserve battery life while the user rests.
Individual users can also build custom modes for unique tasks. One example is a Yardwork Mode. This configuration sets the screen brightness to its maximum level and pushes the notification volume up. This ensures that even in bright sunlight or amidst the noise of equipment, the watch remains audible and visible. Users create these via the Settings app on their phone under the Routines and Modes section.
Hardware Integration Requirements
