AnMed speaks out after outage, confirms malware caused disruption
AnMed has officially confirmed that a malware attack is the cause of the ongoing phone and internet outages affecting its hospital network. The incident has triggered significant disruptions across the system, forcing staff to move away from standard digital processes. Hospital emergency rooms remain open to patients, though some ambulance traffic is currently being diverted to other facilities in the region to ensure continuous care.
The organization is working alongside third-party cybersecurity specialists, as well as state and federal authorities, to address the disruption and restore full functionality. While emergency services are active, the hospital system has canceled several administrative and non-emergency functions. AnMed Medical Group offices and Imaging Services are closed for Monday, July 27, to allow teams to focus on recovery efforts and patient safety protocols.
Despite the network issues, specific departments including Urgent Care, Kids Care, Integrated Therapy, and Laboratory Services are scheduled to open as usual. Patients with elective procedures set for Monday are being contacted directly by hospital staff to provide instructions regarding their appointments. The hospital also postponed a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Education and Technology Center.
AnMed leadership credits the ongoing response to the dedication of its physicians, nurses, and clinical staff. These teams are maintaining patient care under difficult technical conditions while coordinating with emergency medical services across the Upstate area. The hospital promises further updates as more information regarding the restoration of services becomes available.
