Light has introduced its newest device, the Light Flip, aiming to bring a minimalist approach back to the mobile market. Departing from the high price point of previous models, this $299 phone prioritizes basic functionality over constant connectivity. It features a design reminiscent of early 2000s flip phones, complete with physical keys and a T9 dialer.

The hardware includes a 2.8-inch matte OLED screen, a 50MP rear camera, and a MediaTek chipset. Despite the throwback aesthetic, the device supports 5G, eSIM, and includes modern conveniences like a 3.5mm headphone jack and a replaceable battery. The company offers the phone in six distinct colors, ranging from muted tones to bright options like red and yellow.

Software remains a core focus, as the device runs on LightOS. This platform provides essential tools such as navigation and a music player while maintaining a stark interface. While the design is thick at 19mm when folded, it focuses on providing a distraction-free experience for users tired of conventional smartphone notifications.

Those interested in the Light Flip should note that shipping is not expected until April 2027. The company is also offering a cellular service bundle starting at $39 per month for customers who want to pair the hardware with a dedicated plan. This launch represents an effort to reach a wider audience by significantly lowering the cost compared to the premium pricing of the Light Phone 3.
