Samsung recently introduced the latest Galaxy Z series and Watch lineup at their July 2026 event. Hubert Lee, head of the mobile design team, detailed the philosophy behind the new devices, which focuses on comfort and the user experience in daily life. The design team prioritized slimness and lightness to ensure the hardware feels natural in the hand and fits into a routine without friction.
The foldable lineup now features the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8. Samsung expanded this series to address specific needs, from productivity to portability. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra focuses on a slim profile through the Emotive Slim concept, which uses curved silhouettes and sloped frames to improve grip. The Galaxy Z Fold8 draws inspiration from a classic passport, resulting in a 16:10 aspect ratio when folded for easier one-handed use.
Color choices were also specific to these user lifestyles. Options include Violet Shadow for a sophisticated look on the Ultra model, Lavender for the standard Fold, and Pink for the Z Flip to provide a more energetic tone. These colors aim to provide a personal connection to the hardware.
For the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Watch9, the design process centered on daily wearability. The team refined the cushion shape to balance the screen and bezel into a single profile. Buttons received tactile updates for better control by touch. Engineers also used data from over one hundred million wrists to create bands that offer better breathability and stability.
Samsung maintains that while AI changes how we interact with technology, the physical device must remain human-centered. By focusing on how a device feels, the company intends to bridge the gap between powerful internal performance and everyday physical comfort.
