Valve has released SteamVR Beta version 2.17.4, a significant update that integrates more Steam-specific features directly into the virtual reality environment. This release serves as a preview for the upcoming Steam Frame hardware, and users must be opted into both the SteamVR Beta and the Steam Client Beta to access the changes.

The update brings a familiar Quick Access Menu to the VR dashboard, similar to the interface found on the Steam Deck. This menu allows users to manage volume, check battery status for connected hardware, and adjust brightness settings for the environment and cameras without leaving their game. Navigation is now improved with new shortcuts accessible via hover, and players can quit overlay applications directly from the dashboard.

Additional improvements address stability and technical issues. The update includes a fix for a recurring frame drop issue in Steam Link and addresses specific OpenXR events to improve performance. For Linux users, the update includes better error handling and system stability measures, which are necessary steps as Valve prepares the software ecosystem for the next generation of hardware.
