A charter plane crashed Thursday at the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site in Western Alaska, resulting in the loss of all eight people on board. The incident occurred approximately 450 miles west of Anchorage at around 12:15 p.m. local time.
U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Robert Davis confirmed the tragedy, describing it as a devastating loss for the military community. The aircraft, a Cessna 441 operated by Security Aviation, was transporting passengers to the remote facility. Among those killed were two employees of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Search and recovery teams reached the wreckage and confirmed there were no survivors. The names of those on board are being withheld until 24 hours after next of kin notifications are complete. Authorities from the National Transportation Safety Board and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the site.
Cape Newenham is part of a critical network of radar installations managed by the Pacific Air Forces Regional Support Center to monitor airspace and borders. Officials are currently focused on providing support to the families and colleagues of the victims during this difficult period.
