Federal authorities arrested Jessica Bowie, 35, of Albany on Wednesday following an investigation into an alleged plot to bomb the New York State Capitol building. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force took the individual into custody after she reportedly requested assistance in obtaining explosives and firearms to carry out an attack.

According to the criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York, Bowie allegedly communicated with a confidential source acting as an ISIS facilitator between July and August. She is accused of visiting the State Capitol five times to photograph the location and conduct surveillance. During these visits, she reportedly expressed a desire to maximize damage to the building while lawmakers were in session.

Evidence presented by federal officials indicates that Bowie converted to Islam five years ago and subsequently engaged in online activity expressing support for terrorism. In audio recordings obtained by investigators, she allegedly swore allegiance to ISIS. Prosecutors further state that she provided a confidential source with money to purchase bomb-making materials and later sought to acquire a handgun to use against law enforcement during the execution of her plan.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Craig Tremaroli stated that the investigation revealed plans beyond the Albany attack. Investigators allege that the suspect discussed potential future targets including New Year's Eve celebrations in Times Square and the White House. The suspect is currently charged with attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terror organization.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed that state security protocols were updated earlier this year in response to heightened risks of political violence. While officials emphasize there is no ongoing threat, they remain focused on monitoring potential radicalization. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.
