Twin Falls police have released surveillance footage from the recent mass shooting at an Idaho In-N-Out Burger. The video shows the sequence of events as the gunman, identified as 24-year-old Chad Williams, approached the drive-thru window on four separate occasions and opened fire. The violence resulted in three deaths and ten injuries across the restaurant premises, a nearby road, and a car charging station.
During a recent press conference, Police Chief Matthew Hicks detailed the chaotic scene. He highlighted the actions of several individuals who attempted to intervene during the attack. Among those recognized for their response is an off-duty state trooper who exchanged gunfire with the shooter through the restaurant window while helping staff move to safety. A former police officer, A.J. James, was also wounded while attempting to confront the suspect.
Authorities specifically commended a civilian who encountered the gunman on a nearby trail after fleeing the scene. By engaging the shooter and distracting him, this person provided precious time for others to escape and likely saved additional lives. The gunman eventually took his own life as law enforcement arrived at the scene. Investigators state they currently have no motive for the attack.
This shooting occurred at a location that had only opened in July as part of the restaurant chain’s expansion into Idaho. The victims killed in the attack were 23-year-old Ashley Garibay, 66-year-old Dale Schultz, and 59-year-old Christopher Claunch. The community continues to mourn the loss of life from the event, which authorities describe as deeply traumatic. Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the violence.
