Ohio Representative Marcy Kaptur is currently receiving medical care following a hit-and-run accident in Toledo this past Sunday. The congresswoman and her campaign manager, Kegan Zimmermann, were passengers in a vehicle that was struck at the intersection of Detroit and Central Avenues at approximately 10:48 a.m.
Officials from the congresswoman’s office confirmed that she remains active and alert. Both Kaptur and Zimmermann are in stable condition with injuries described as non-life threatening. Kaptur stated her appreciation for the rapid response of the local police and fire departments, as well as the medical staff attending to them.
The Toledo Police Department is overseeing an active investigation into the incident, which they have categorized as a hit-skip crash. While authorities have indicated the inquiry is in its early stages, they continue to gather information regarding the circumstances of the collision.
Kaptur, who has served as the representative for Ohio’s 9th congressional district since 1982, is the fourth-longest serving member of the House. As she recovers, she has expressed gratitude for the messages of support from her constituents and expects to resume her professional schedule in the near future.
