Law enforcement officials are investigating a shooting at Virginia State University that left five people injured. The incident occurred early Saturday morning, around 1:30 a.m., outside a campus residence hall. Local authorities report that multiple shooters were involved in the event.
First responders arrived to find five victims with gunshot wounds. Medical personnel transported the individuals to local hospitals for treatment. One victim is currently in critical condition, while the four others sustained injuries that are not life-threatening. The university administration confirmed that only one of the victims is a current student at the institution, with the others believed to be from the surrounding community.
Campus security implemented a temporary lockdown following the shooting. A significant law enforcement presence remains on the grounds as the investigation proceeds. The Chesterfield County Police Department, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Hanover County Sheriff's Office, are currently working to identify the suspects.
