SUU student identified as US soldier killed in Jordan

Southern Utah University has confirmed that 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan was killed in action while serving in Jordan. He was a current student at the university and was weeks away from completing his MBA. The institution plans to award him his degree posthumously as a mark of respect for his academic and military contributions.

Feehan was from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and served as part of a mission against the Islamic State. He was a graduate of the SUU Army ROTC program and had previously served as a member of the 2nd Battalion, 222nd Field Artillery, Utah Army National Guard. His military service also took him to Fort Bragg in North Carolina where he worked as an Air Defense Artillery Officer.

In memory of his service, the university intends to recognize him during its upcoming Pioneer Legacy Celebration. The school's carillon will display yellow ribbons and play The Army Song every hour as a tribute. President Mindy Benson offered condolences to the family and recognized the loss felt by the campus community.

State leaders have also spoken about the loss. Governor Spencer Cox and Senator Mike Lee both issued public statements honoring Feehan's commitment to the nation and the state of Utah. Senator John Curtis used the event to call for congressional action regarding military operations in the region. The U.S. military reported that this attack was part of an ongoing conflict, and officials have confirmed plans to respond to the situation.
