Ukrainian forces launched a series of drone strikes against targets deep inside Russia over the weekend. These operations reached military, energy, and civilian sites. Eight individuals died as a result of the overnight strikes, while local officials reported damage to apartment buildings in Saratov and Engels.
Russia reported its air defenses intercepted 635 drones throughout the assault. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Kyiv focused on specific military assets, including an oil refinery in Saratov and a base hosting long-range bombers in Engels. He stated that the campaign brings the impact of the war directly to the source of the aggression.
Logistics infrastructure also faced pressure during the weekend operations. Kyiv targeted a warehouse belonging to the retailer Wildberries in the Samara region, which is located more than 800 kilometers from the front lines. This is part of a broader push by Ukrainian forces to strike sites that allegedly support Russian military operations.
While the total count of intercepted drones remains unverified, the scale of the operation marks a significant effort to move combat operations into Russian territory. Analysts view these strikes as a method to influence the domestic atmosphere within Russia by impacting industrial sites and infrastructure linked to the state economy.
