UN Secretary-General António Guterres described the findings as a sign that humanity is speeding past the limit.

Experts acknowledge that every fraction of a degree matters even if the initial limit is breached. University of Victoria scientist Andrew Weaver noted that while the report carries a tone of desperation, it remains clear that preventing higher peaks reduces future damage. The challenge remains the massive scale of current carbon emissions from coal, oil, and gas consumption.

Adapting to the new environment is the primary focus of the report's recommendations. This phase of coping and containment acknowledges that some environmental damage is now unavoidable. Food production will face significant hurdles, water scarcity will likely become more frequent, and various species face the risk of extinction. Returning to a safer temperature requires carbon dioxide removal on a scale that currently does not exist. While planting trees is part of the solution, the report suggests it can only account for a minor fraction of the necessary cooling. Stanford University climate scientist Rob Jackson summarized the situation by noting that the world failed to stop the train of emissions before hitting the 1.5 degree mark and must now find a way to back it up.
