Recognition for Market Architects
The inaugural One of a Kind Awards, co-presented by The Economic Times and Cashfree Payments, honored early-stage startups that move beyond simple competition to redefine market categories. These companies do not merely improve existing goods. They change how users perceive problems and offer entirely new ways to address them. This award ceremony took place at the Novotel in Bengaluru on August 21, 2026, bringing together investors, founders, and industry leaders.
Urdhvam Environmental Technologies Pvt. Ltd. claimed the top prize in the Category Creator segment. The firm tackles groundwater depletion through a combination of IoT mapping and robotic recharging for borewells. This approach allows for significant increases in rainwater capture. Praan Health earned first runner-up status for its platform that integrates medical care, physical therapy, and mental health support into a single dashboard for elderly care. Rymo Technologies took home second runner-up honors for its portable robotic systems designed for patient rehabilitation.
The Strategic Framework of Innovation
Category creators face a dual burden. They must build a functional product while educating the market on why that product is necessary. This requires the development of new language around specific problems and the establishment of trust where no precedent exists. The awards process reflected this complexity. Applications were open from April 13 to May 31, 2026, followed by a rigorous three-week research phase. Experts scrutinized scalability, traction, and the underlying business logic of each entrant before presenting the final shortlist to the jury on June 30.
The final jury panel included Animesh Kumar Das, MD & CEO of ACKO General Insurance, and Vikram Chachra from 8i Ventures. Saurabh Garg, founder of NoBroker.com, Kanika Agarrwal of India Quotient, and Dr. Panneerselvam Madanagopal from the MeitY Startup Hub also participated. Their goal was to identify companies that create genuine market shifts rather than incremental gains.
Long-Term Ecosystem Impact
The initiative aims to bridge the gap between initial promise and broad commercial success. Winners receive more than just a trophy. They gain access to national brand spotlights on The Economic Times and Cashfree digital platforms. This exposure is vital for reaching talent, partners, and investors in the crowded internet-first landscape.
Cashfree Payments provides further utility through infrastructure credits. These resources assist startups with core functions like international payments, identity verification, and payment collection. By supporting these formative years, the award program acts as a catalyst for sustainable growth. The broader significance lies in the recognition of potential before it reaches mainstream visibility. As India's startup ecosystem matures, these models of unconventional problem-solving will likely become the standard for future investment.
