Victoria Independent School District is scaling its Career and Technical Education programs to address the rising demand for skilled labor across Texas. The district provides students with a direct path from the classroom to high-wage industries through practical, hands-on training. Current offerings include 23 specific programs of study across 12 distinct career clusters, ranging from health science and law enforcement to automotive technology and electrical trades.
Students in these programs do more than study theory. They gain experience in welding shops, agricultural facilities, and medical labs that mirror real-world environments. This approach ensures that graduates possess the specific technical skills required by employers. In addition to technical training, students earn industry-recognized certifications. During the 2025-26 academic year, students in the district secured over 1,100 of these credentials, which directly increases their employability upon graduation.
The district emphasizes professional development by teaching core workplace behaviors. Communication, teamwork, and problem-solving are integrated into every course to ensure students are ready for professional settings. Safety training serves as a mandatory prerequisite for all laboratory work, where students must pass rigorous assessments before handling specialized equipment.
Partnerships with local businesses and Victoria College bolster these programs. Over 160 industry representatives serve on advisory committees to align the curriculum with current workforce needs. Furthermore, dual credit options allow students to earn college hours while finishing their high school requirements. These combined efforts create a pipeline of prepared workers who can enter the workforce, military, or higher education with a clear advantage.
