June Local Employment and Unemployment Data Released

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development has released the labor statistics for June 2026. The latest data indicates a shift in employment across the state as unemployment rates climbed in every metropolitan area over the course of the month.

All 13 of the state's metropolitan statistical areas reported a rise in unemployment rates for June. Similar patterns emerged at the municipal and county levels. Across Wisconsin's 35 largest cities, unemployment rates increased in every location over the month. Furthermore, all 72 counties in the state saw a rise in unemployment figures during the same period.

The year-over-year comparison provides additional context for these numbers. While rates increased in 10 metropolitan areas compared to last year, three areas—Fond du Lac, Milwaukee-Waukesha, and Sheboygan—maintained the same rates. Among the largest cities, six saw a decrease in unemployment compared to the previous year, while 23 cities experienced an increase.
