New data from the unified social security agency EFKA provides a clear picture of pension distribution in Greece as of July 2026. While the average monthly pension sits at €978.92, this number does not represent the typical experience for most retirees. The median pension is notably lower at €869.81, indicating that a significant portion of recipients exist below the statistical average.

Financial obligations for the state remain substantial. EFKA processed payments totaling €2.86 billion in July alone. These funds covered 2,923,796 main pensions alongside 1,416,176 supplementary pensions and 445,592 dividends originating from employee funds.

The majority of these monthly disbursements fall within the €500 to €1,000 range. These figures highlight the concentration of pension income for a large segment of the retired population and provide context for current social security discussions.
