Social Security payments will look a bit different in August 2026

Social Security recipients will notice a change to their payment schedule in August 2026. Because August 1 falls on a Saturday, the Social Security Administration policy shifts the distribution date for Supplemental Security Income payments.

Recipients should receive their SSI check on July 31 instead of early August. This timing results in two payments appearing in July, with no additional check arriving in the month of August. Payments will resume on their normal schedule starting September 1.

Standard Social Security beneficiaries who do not receive SSI remain on their specific monthly schedule. Those payments depend on the recipient's date of birth. Beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of the month receive funds on the second Wednesday. Those born between the 11th and 20th receive funds on the third Wednesday. Those born between the 21st and 31st receive funds on the fourth Wednesday.

This calendar shift is a standard administrative adjustment required when payment dates coincide with weekends or federal holidays. Recipients should plan their monthly finances to account for this gap in August distributions. The agency has implemented these rules to ensure consistent processing cycles across the federal system.
