The Gallerie degli Uffizi in Florence announced a €50m renovation project covering their museums and gardens. This investment aims to upgrade infrastructure across the Uffizi Gallery, the Palazzo Pitti, and the historic Boboli Gardens.
Key updates involve installing new lighting systems and climate control equipment to protect the artwork. The management plans to create new exhibition areas, including a 1,000 sq. m. space on the top floor of the Palazzo Pitti. These changes will also feature improved signage and accessibility upgrades to help manage visitor movement through the massive complex.
Funding for this initiative comes from a combination of ticket revenue and culture ministry grants. The project includes the restoration of the 17th-century amphitheater and the Fountain of Neptune within the Boboli Gardens. The current administration started planning these interventions in 2024 to ensure the facility meets modern conservation standards while maintaining its historical identity.
Some work is already finished, such as the restoration of the Flemish Masters' rooms. The entire program is scheduled to conclude within two years. Director Simone Verde stated these changes are intended to provide an improved experience for international visitors and locals alike.
